In this bilingual Spanish/English workshop, participants will explore the possibilities of ceramics as their canvas. Attendees will learn fundamental painting techniques, experiment with vibrant hues, and discover the joy of turning a simple tile into a personalized work of art. Through the application of underglazes on bisque tiles using brushes and stencils, this workshop promises to cultivate both artistic skills and a deep appreciation for the boundless world of artistic expression.

Tiles will be fired off-site and available to pick up at PS1 following the workshop.

*PS1 workshops are pay-what-you-can thanks to support from the Community Foundation of Johnson County, the Johnson County Board of Supervisors Quality of Life Grant, and individual donors. $115 is the true cost of the workshop, and we encourage participants to select the cost that they can afford, or pay a little extra to support future sliding-scale fees.

En este taller bilingüe, los participantes explorarán las posibilidades de la cerámica como lienzo. Los asistentes aprenderán técnicas fundamentales de pintura, experimentarán con tonos vibrantes y descubrirán el placer de convertir un simple azulejo en una obra de arte personalizada. Mediante la aplicación de esmaltes sobre azulejos bizcochados utilizando pinceles y plantillas, este taller promete cultivar tanto las habilidades artísticas como una profunda apreciación del ilimitado mundo de la expresión artística.

Los azulejos se cocerán fuera de las instalaciones y se podrán recoger en el PS1 tras el taller.

I'm a Mexican artist currently living in Iowa City. Being an immigrant artist, the ceramic-sculptural work that I do, seeks to highlight my roots and cultural heritage as well as my background as a Traditional Talavera pottery artisan.
