DAZZLE CRAWL

INVISIBLE FACES was a community arts project articulating the lived experience of Latinos in eastern Iowa through artwork exploring themes of identity and migration. This project took the form of an eight-month series of free weekly workshops in photography, silkscreen printing, and sculptural installation organized facilitated by artists Patricia León, Fidencio Martínez, and Gonzalo Pinilla and open to local Latino adults and teens. Many participants attended weekly, learning creative techniques and using equipment not typically accessible outside of a university or art world setting. Participants developed long-term creative projects that were critiqued by professional artists and presented in a gallery exhibition at Public Space One, a presentation at a local church, and a printed catalog (available for PDF download here). Invisible Faces was produced with support from the National Association of Latino Arts & Cultures, the Iowa Arts Council, St. Patrick’s and St. Joseph’s churches in Iowa City and West Liberty, and the University of Iowa Office of Outreach & Engagement, School of Art and Art History, and Department of Spanish & Portuguese.
