John McGlinn Builds Some Nightstands

If variety is the spice of life, we at the Iowa City Press Co-op are a meal worth salivating over. The diversity of our members' interests, talents, and skillsets are seemingly endless.

Enter John McGlinn. One of our members you may not know as well as others, because he's been living in two cities for the past four years. Lucky for him, he decided to retire last year, and lucky for us, and he picked Iowa City to be his full-time home, after spending much of the past few years in Chicago.

John is a multi-skilled artist, working in relief printing, painting, and even carpentry! Since settling in town last September, John's been working on a series of eleven paintings which we can't wait to see when he's finished! But something came up, right when he had finished the tenth painting, that required his full attention.

As artists, I think we can all appreciate the need for an aesthetic that's just right. After searching fruitlessly for a specific size of nightstands, John decided to take matters into his own hands, and some skilled hands they are! (Check out the dovetails!)

We'll let you know when John's paintings are completed and ready to be seen. In the meantime, check out this print he sold last year at ICPC's Welcome Winter Art Sale Reception!
