Lift grounds allow the intaglio printmaker to achieve a variety of photographic, painterly, and graphic marks with wide tonal variety when paired with aquatint and step-etching. In this class, we will look at how to mix your own lift solutions and apply lift grounds to a copper etching plate through a silkscreen to achieve half-toned photographic imagery, graphic marks, or cover large swathes of a plate. Application with paintbrush or other mark-making tools will also be covered. Lift grounds can be used in conjunction with line etching to great effect. This workshop will cover preparing your image, screen, and plate for lift grounds, mixing the lift, applying hard ground, lifting the image area, etching, and printing plates.

Basic intaglio knowledge is required to participate.

Registration deadline: January 1

open to adults 18+
