ARTIST STATEMENT:

Lately I have been making work that blurs the lines between precious and inexpensive, sculpture and jewelry, as well as art and toy. This very serious art show challenges preconceived ideas about material and value and begs the question ‘where does this object belong?’ “Would I find this in a gallery space? Or around the kids table at a family gathering?’

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Justin Scroggins is an artist residing in Iowa City. The Bachelor of Fine Arts graduate emphasized in metalsmithing and jewelry at the University of Whitewater, Wisconsin. He has appeared in several national exhibitions and has been featured in online publications.

Justin uses his sense of humor and a multidisciplinary approach when making his work. Along with media such as silver, wood, and porcelain, Justin will often use unconventional materials mixed with traditional techniques to create work that borders on the surreal.
