Goals of this group

  • provide regular community and a space to use the internet without being physically isolated

  • create pathways for artists to share their work without the drawbacks of social media

  • help participants build confidence in their ability to publish online/make websites

  • promote data independence (owning your own content and being able to decide how others can use it)

☝️Some important notes!

  • You don't need to have previous experience and the tools you use to make your website are totally up to you.

  • This is not a workshop; there is no instructor available to teach you step-by-step how to build websites. People in the group can point each other to resources, but part of being in the group is taking the initiative to learn the skills we need, surrounded by supportive people who are doing the same.

  • This group is intended for people building personal websites and sharing art online. It is not for promoting businesses or other formal groups. Increased visibility may occur as a result of sharing online, but this is not a marketing strategy group for commercial interests.

  • Please don't come to the group soliciting attendees to build a website for you. This group is intended to provide participants with space, time, and gentle accountability to work on their own projects.

Logistics

  • October Meetup Dates: Sundays 10/4 and 10/25, 10am-12pm

  • Cloud House at PS1 Close, 538 S. Gilbert St.

  • BYO laptop! A couple of computers will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

What will meetups look like?

This is a new group, and you can help shape it! The plan as of right now is to start sessions with introductions and potentially sharing cool websites group members have discovered. The majority of the time will be for working on website projects in shared space.
