Caravan of Hope: A 31-Day National Tour for LGBTQ+ Legal Justice

The Caravan of Hope is a 31-day, cross-country RV tour delivering free legal services to LGBTQ+ people in rural and underserved areas. Beginning March 1, 2026, Angela Giampolo and the Caravan of Hope team will travel in a 32-foot RV and stop in 17 cities (including kickoff and homecoming in Philadelphia) to provide pro bono legal support with a focus on practical legal needs that help LGBTQ+ people protect their identity, family, and stability.

“Big cities can have layers of community support and affirming resources,” Giampolo said. “But across much of the country, LGBTQ+ people are navigating higher risk, fewer protections, and fewer places to turn, especially in today’s political climate.” The Caravan of Hope is designed to bring legal help directly to communities facing disproportionate barriers, including LGBTQ+ youth experiencing homelessness, transgender people facing economic instability, and older LGBTQ+ adults who often lack safe, affirming support systems.

Services offered (pro bono) include:

  • Name changes

  • Gender marker and ID-related changes

  • Simple estate planning (e.g., wills, powers of attorney, healthcare directives)

  • General legal resources and referrals

She holds a Certificate of Law in Chinese Law from Tsinghua University and previously worked with the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for the Rwandan Genocide. The Caravan of Hope was founded in 2016 as a direct response to Trump taking office and what Giampolo describes as the widening gap between people who can access affirming legal help and those who cannot.
