Participants in this workshop will be introduced to the extensive collection of wood and metal type available in the letterpress area of our community print shop, including best practices for cleaning, caring for, and distributing type. This workshop will also prepare participants to accurately measure and identify mystery sorts (including spacing) and to contribute to collaborative documentation of our type collection through the ongoing creation of a type specimen book.
Open to ages 18+. This workshop is well-suited for individuals with letterpress experience and for those without!

TEACHING ARTIST:
Laura Moser is PS1's Community Stewardship Director. She has an MFA in Literary Translation and studied book arts at the University of Iowa Center for the Book before joining the Iowa City Press Co-op in 2022, where she is always learning more about letterpress and other print techniques.
