Has it been a while since you coated a screen? Is an old stencil still lingering, preventing you from starting anew?

This art skills workshop offers a brief screenprint refresher focused on coating and reclaiming screens. We’ll review the basic steps to prep and coat with photo emulsion, chat about other stencil materials, and collectively reclaim screens in the ICPC collection. All great practice to begin your next screenprint project!

Screens will be available from the ICPC collection to run through the steps, but you can also bring your own.

Open to ages 18+ and to those with prior screenprinting experience. Please note that this workshop is not a substitute for Intro to Screenprint, but it can be a great chance to practice and renew old skills!

If you’re not sure this is quite right for you, please send an email to lydia@publicspaceone.com

RSVP to reserve your spot!

TEACHING ARTIST:

Lydia Diemer is an Iowa City-based artist and cultural worker at Public Space One. She studies, teaches, and creates work at the edges of print media. Her practice is acquisitive, working with the careworn qualities of objects and associative seeps of entropy to craft plans for reuse and display. As PS1’s Artist Resource Director and part of team BFF, she queries different approaches to support and access in the visual arts, seeking to bolster these offerings at PS1 and within the broader community. She holds an MFA from the University of Iowa, is an intermittent educator, and enjoys print camaraderie as a member of the Iowa City Press Co-op.
