From start to finish you will learn how to create natural watercolors from plants. We will create dye baths from plant matter and learn the process of extracting lake pigment from the dye baths that will be used to pigment watercolors. Additionally, participants will have access to my extensive collection of locally foraged plant pigments and be able to choose and create 3 watercolors from my personal pigment library. Participants will learn the process of creating dye lake pigment and watercolor binder. All will leave the class with a palette of plant pigment watercolors that they have made, supply kits, and watercolor binder to continue making watercolors after the workshop.
Open to ages 14+.

PS1 workshops are pay-what-you-can thanks to support from Hills Bank, a Johnson County Quality of Life Grant, and individual donors. $XXX is the true cost of the workshop for each participant. We encourage participants to select the cost that they can afford (including free), or pay a little extra to support future sliding-scale fees.

TEACHING ARTIST:
Lilah Ward Shepherd is a multidisciplinary artist working with textiles, natural dyeing, printmaking, clay, painting & drawing. Her work has been exhibited across the United States and Canada. Her work explores color relationships, geometric shapes and patterning, relationships between forms and space while investigating human relationships, identity, ancestry, peace, comfort, and play.
