  • PS1 Close 538 South Gilbert Street Iowa City, IA, 52240 United States (map)

TEACHING ARTIST:

Eva Adderley is a midwest-based multi-media magic-maker. She has worked as puppet builder, seamstress, installation artist, and illustrator. She works for various theaters, community art festivals, and parades in the Twin Cities. She also teaches art and writing classes for students of all ages in Minneapolis (and occasionally beyond). Some of her favorite creations include a 23 foot long glow-in-the-dark dragon skeleton puppet, a firebird made of actual fire, and a giant bowerbird nest!

Wednesday April 3, 6-9pm
at PS1 Close (538 S. Gilbert, 1st floor Main Hall)
pay-what-you-can: $5-$60

In this workshop, students will create their very own larger-than-life fish puppets! Along the way, they will learn basic parade puppet building skills such as creating patterns, making moving parts, and balancing weight on large puppets. Creative alterations to the project will be highly encouraged, and an emphasis on recycled materials and accessible techniques will make it easy for students to apply what they learn to future puppet projects.

Registration deadline: March 31

open to ages 14+

*PS1 workshops are pay-what-you-can thanks to support from the Community Foundation of Johnson County, the Johnson County Board of Supervisors, and individual donors. $45 is the true cost of the workshop. We encourage participants to select the cost that they can afford. If you have a higher income or access to resources, pay a little extra to support future sliding-scale fees.
