About the artist:

Mahmoud Malik is a renowned master Oud player and a vital pillar of the Midwestern Sudanese musical community. After emigrating from Sudan to Iowa City thirty years ago, Mahmoud has dedicated himself to sharing his homeland's rich musical traditions through both solo and collaborative performances.

​Born into a highly acclaimed musical family, he began playing the Oud at just eight years old. He has since spent over fourty years mastering the instrument's complex regional styles, earning a reputation for his technical brilliance, emotional depth, and dedication to cultural preservation.
