Quicker Than a Ray of Light, Then Gone

  • PS1 Close House 538 South Gilbert Street Iowa City, IA, 52240 United States (map)

Saturday: performance
Sunday: augmented reality workshop
& artist roundtable

“Quicker Than a Ray of Light…Then Gone” features five artists exploring the elusive material of light as a medium for our fluid and always reconstructing selves. Drag performances by Celeste and Odette will explore sublime spaces beyond the edges of prescribed identity, while interactive audiovisual performances by webcam, Fetter, and Fleming will question the boundaries and accumulations of place and self. Each of these artists reclaim technology, cultural detritus, and the body to explore connection and belonging in the face of so much uncertainty.

Join us Saturday May 4th at 8pm for a night of performances. Please note that performances may include sexual, political, and/or otherwise emotionally charged themes that may not be appropriate for younger audiences.

On Sunday May 5th, there will be an all-ages augmented reality workshop and a roundtable discussion event with the participating artists. No experience necessary to participate in the workshop, and both Sunday events are open to audiences of all ages. Advance registration for the workshop is recommended. The workshop will take place from 12:30-2pm, followed by the round table discussion from 3-4pm.

Free and open to the public.

Workshop: Dancing the Exquisite Corpse
Join multimedia artist Bun Stout (aka Odette) for a collaborative augmented reality workshop. Participants will work together to create a shared body-tracking artwork with drawings. No experience required, all materials provided.
