Kalmia Strong (she/her)

Kalmia Strong grew up in Texas, moved to the east coast, then came to Iowa City for graduate studies in book arts and library science. Her creative, teaching, and curatorial work is typically collaborative and has unfolded in diverse spaces: graduate seminars, youth workshops, libraries, DIY venues, book fairs, cornfields, and defunct museums -- in the Midwest as well as in Canada and Moldova.

Kalmia is deeply committed to learning about and supporting community spaces (physical and beyond) and how people organize, cooperate, and share knowledge within and between them to resist capitalism and other oppressive systems. She would always like to talk to you about food, zines and other independent media, gardening, and (of course) art of all kinds.

Kalmia has been involved with PS1 since 2010 and now plays a supportive and connective role amongst its many programs and resources. She also coordinates PS1’s workshops, runs the zine library, and writes grants, email newsletters, IG posts, and zillions of emails.
