June 2026 artist-in-residence at the Center for Afrofuturist Studies
Jalynn Harris is a poet, educator, editor, and press founder from Baltimore, MD. She founded SoftSavagePress for the sole purpose of promoting visual and literary works by Black people. Her work has been featured in The Best American Poetry 2022, Poets.org, The Hopkins Review, Feminist Studies, and elsewhere. Her chapbook, Exit Thru the Afro, can be purchased at jalynnharris.com.
During their time in residence, Jalynn will be offering poetry workshops for BIPOC youth where participants will tap into their personal power through developing a personae. Additionally, they will be practicing various printing techniques at ICPC to find creative ways to display their photography in an exhibition at the Close House at the end of the month. Join her on June 25 for a poetry reading and open mic in the exhibition space.
