A Rogue's Approach to Multicolor Block Printing

pay-what-you-can: $25-$120

Workshop participants will learn the basics of multiple block color printing to create exciting, colorful relief prints, printed by hand. Skills learned will include strategies for registration, the optional use of the jigsaw method, and ways to utilize extender to create even more colors.

Participants should have prior experience with basic linocut printing.
Open to ages 14+.

*PS1 workshops are pay-what-you-can thanks to support from Hills Bank and individual donors. $86 is the true cost of the workshop, and we encourage participants to select the cost that they can afford, or pay a little extra to support future sliding-scale fees.

TEACHING ARTIST:

Jenny Gringer is a self-taught linocut printmaker specializing in both single and multiblock color printing. Through years of dedicated experimentation, she has developed a distinctive style that has earned her recognition in publications and exhibitions across Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Japan, and Louisiana. Jenny’s work often explores political themes, the human condition, and resilience in the face of adversity, while she also finds joy in carving images of animals, birds, and fish. Her art is characterized by a spirit of lawlessness, subversiveness, and enthusiasm, reflecting her approach to both creativity and life. An active participant in the local art scene, Jenny regularly joins the Iowa City Joy March. Born and raised in Iowa City, she continues to live there with her family and four cats, drawing inspiration from her community and surroundings.
