Visibly Mending Clothes with Sashiko & Darning

Students will learn visible mending techniques for both woven and knitted clothing. Techniques covered will include hand sewing with sashiko thread with an introduction to sashiko and boro styles & darning creating woven patches using a loom. Students should bring any scraps of fabric they will be mending with as well as the articles of clothing they want to mend. 

Open to ages 14+.

PS1 workshops are pay-what-you-can thanks to support from Hills Bank, a Johnson County Quality of Life Grant, and individual donors. $XXX is the true cost of the workshop for each participant. We encourage participants to select the cost that they can afford (including free), or pay a little extra to support future sliding-scale fees.

TEACHING ARTIST:

Lilah Ward Shepherd is a multidisciplinary artist working with textiles, natural dyeing, printmaking, clay, painting and drawing. Her work has been exhibited across the United States and Canada. Her work explores color relationships, geometric shapes and patterning, relationships between forms and space while investigating human relationships, identity, ancestry, peace, comfort, and play.
