Intro to Arabic Lettering
Intro to Arabic Lettering
with Reina Akkouche Halabi
Thursdays July 2 and 9, 5:30-8:30pm
at the IC Press Co-op (225 N. Gilbert)
sliding scale: XXXX
This workshop covers basic principles of Arabic lettering. Over the course of two sessions, participants will learn about the Arabic script’s unique styles (solid and fluid), examine lettering principles such as contrast, weight and proportions, and experiment freely to create a final hand-drawn composition that remains faithful to the script’s calligraphic heritage through a contemporary lens. Arabic is a unique script, written in a continuous flow and offering a distinctive aesthetic flexibility. The goal of this workshop is to introduce Arabic’s versatility and produce a final lettering piece that remains legible.
Open to ages 18+. Basic knowledge of Arabic is helpful, but not necessary.
Registration deadline: June 29
*PS1 workshops are pay-what-you-can thanks to support from Hills Bank and individual donors. XXX is the true cost of the workshop, and we encourage participants to select the cost that they can afford, or pay a little extra to support future sliding-scale fees.
