Lydia Diemer

Lydia Diemer is an Iowa City-based artist and cultural worker. She studies, teaches, and creates work at the edges of print media. Her practice is acquisitive: a walk to gather, a swim to reflect and write. She works with the entropic forces of time, the careworn qualities paused or accelerated, and the associative seeps of objects, textures, relays and blindsight, trying to craft a plan for reuse or display.

Diemer enjoys the roving nature of PS1’s many spaces, from the print camaraderie at the IC Press Co-op to the hush of the CAS reading room. And especially, sitting attentively, learning from other members and visitors about the obstacles and rewards of shared curiosity and engaged practice. As PS1’s Artist Resource Director and part of team BFF, she queries different approaches to support and access in the visual arts, seeking to bolster these offerings at PS1 and within the broader community.
